For me, the human form is both inspiration and subject. Throughout my life, I have been continually inspired by the beauty and subtlety of the physical expression that the human form modulates into communication. It is such an integral part of our subconscious being and our societal structure that we hardly pause to separate it out for special notice.
Exploring the elemental human form artistically is a way for me to pause and reconnect. Since 2003 I have focused intensely on the properties of charcoal and pastel as the mediums most spontaneous and explorative for this subject matter. Pastel is an amazing integration of drawing and painting, thereby, allowing immediate involvement with and response to a subject that is never really static. This medium is often unexpectedly revealing of the emotions that a pose, a look, or a particular lighting may evoke.
Through using line, movement, form and color; I am continually intrigued by this visual dialogue and find myself exploring inwardly as I gain a more genuine connection with our innocence. I am ever hopeful that in assimilating this work you will gain a fresh experience into the subtle and wondrous beauty of our human form.
