I grew up with a constant desire to create… and that’s what I’ve done. Jewelry and surfboard making in the 70’s, songwriting and musical performance in the 80’s, furniture and visual art in the 90’s, and guitar building throughout all three decades. In this new millennium, although the “canvases” have changed, the act of creating one-of-a-kind works of art never has… and never will.
I co-founded the world-renowned Fender Guitar Custom Shop, having designed and built instruments for some of the worlds’ top musicians. Players like Eric Clapton, Jon Bon Jovi, and Peter Townsend, just to name a few. I was also fortunate enough to design instruments for some of the most historic and influential companies in the world… Walt Disney Studios, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, Playboy Magazine and Jaguar Automobiles.
After over twenty years in the musical instrument industry I changed canvases again, and became the founding Executive Director of the Fender Museum of Music and the Arts. From a seed of an idea, my staff and I created a 33,000 square foot museum, education and performance facility, and developed the Kids Rock Free Educational Program, where thousands of children each year still receive free music education. Still creating… still changing canvases.
My history of creating has one common thread; all of my works are “functional” art. My art furniture is no exception. I am passionate about my art and don’t want to create just “decoration”. I want to create pieces that you can become a part of… that you can touch and use. And maybe, if I do my job right… they can “touch” you. I’m always searching for the right balance of lines. My passionate side is drawn to feminine curves, but my mechanical side is drawn to simple geometric forms. I love combining the two. Using exotic and domestic woods, fit and finished to the finest degree of precision on my furniture, and many other mediums in my sculpture, I strive to create distinctly modern, functional works of art. | |
